Safety Rider Speed Hump

Product Description

Safety Rider Speed Hump is a unique traffic-calming device designed to safely slow traffic while maintaining continuous traffic flow. Embedded bright reflective tape alerts drivers well in advance. Safety Rider is sold in modular units (19.5" length) with a tongue-n'-groove system, allowing any length of speed hump to be created.  End Caps are also available to give a smooth finish to the edges of the hump.

Installations:

The end caps for the Safety Rider have either a male or female tab on the flat edge. You will need one male and one female end cap for each installation.

  1. Determine the location for installation of the Safety Rider Speed Hump.  Place a center chalk line (line# 1) across the desired roadway surface marking the desired center point of the finished speed hump.  Place a second chalk line (line # 2) approximately 18" from and parallel to the first chalk line, on one side of the centerline.
  2. Starting on either side of the raodway place a chalk line (line # 3) 18" into the roadway from the desired ending point of the Safety Rider, so as to intersect the first two chalk lines at right angles (90o angle)
  3. Place the first Safety Rider section so that its long (35.5") edge is aligned with chalk line # 3, and the short (19.5") edge is aligned with chalk line # 2. One corner of the Safety Rider should now be in the corner created by the intersetion of chalk line #'s 2 and 3. Chalk line # 1 should be under the center of this first section.  IMPORTANT: The male or female tab on this first section must be aligned with chalk line # 3. The oposite male or female tab from the end cap will need to be aligned with this first tab.
  4. When satisfied with proper alignment, drill 3/8" pilot holes, 2 - 3" deep, through the six bolt holes in the Safety Rider section into the asphalt surface, being careful not to move the section during this process.  Remove this section of Safety Rider.  Finish drilling the six holes to a depth of 3" (1/2" diameter).  Reinstalling with other than manufacturers shileds require that you adjust the width of the hole to meet the shield manufacturers recommendations.
  5. Using a rubber mallet, insert plastic shields into the six holes drilled in the asphalt.  Align the Safety Rider section with the six holes and attach using the 5" lag bolts and washers supplied.  Do not over tighten.
  6. Align the first end cap with the first installed section.   The tab on the end cap should mate with the slot of the first section.  Drill holes, insert plastic shields and attach end cap as described above.  Tighten all lag bolts, except the two closest to the next section to be installed.  They should be tightened only after the next adjoing section is installed.
  7. Continue to attach each adjoining section until crossing the roadway to the desired width.  Before installing the final Safety Rider section, be sure your last end cap will fit into the last Safety main section.  If not you should exchange that end cap for the proper end cap.  Attach the other end cap using the same procedure.
